Minnow Bucket

Before hitting the beach, I have to make a stop at my local bait and tackle establishment. I should purchase some bait, and I like to get sand fleas for pompano. Pompano love sand fleas, but shrimp will also work as well. I also grab a big bag of ice for the cooler; you intend to keep fish cool as they spoil in the heat.

Once I get to the beach, I begin to unload my truck, placing everything in the beach cart. I then begin to walk down the beach to my favorite spot. When I get to my spot, I start by placing my sand spikes in the sand. Next, I begin to assemble my rods pieces together and thread the line through the guides. I then tie on a pompano rig and attach a 4 oz. pyramid weight. After seeing to it everything is tied on appropriately, I get hold of two sand fleas and place them on the hooks.

Now, comes the time to toss out my lines. I often throw my ten foot rod closer to the shore, around thirty yards, and my twelve foot rod around sixty yards. After tossing out my line, I reel in the slack line, place the rod in the sand spike, and wait for those tasty pompano to get hold of the hook.

Numerous nights ago, we went kayaking. Summer days are hot in Florida so we started at 6:30 pm. It's still hot when you introduce but slowly cools off as the sun begins to slide down behind the mangrove trees. We ate an early dinner, loaded the kayaks on the automobile, placed all the gear in the trunk and drove the short distance east on Manatee Avenue to Palma Sola Bay. We parked on the ideal hand side of the road, did the kayak and gear loading backwards, and pushed our kayaks out in the bay.

First, we attended a "kayak try-out" hosted by a local boat and tackle establishment at a pond. After taking three or four kayaks out on the pond, we each picked one that felt ideal to us. We briefly considered a tandem but swiftly realized that wouldn't work; during automobile trips, we can never agree on the most effective course. How would we ever manage a tandem?
